Grateful to be featured in Bloomberg News and thanks to Ben Westcott for reaching out to us after I shared our story and learnings at National Farmers' Federation Ag Exchange Conference last year.
In short, I shared how our family business is navigating intergenerational transition for the second time.
Our first experience changed how we approach everything. We’ve started earlier, planned more intentionally, and we ensure open and respectful communication is a non-negotiable, especially when conversations may feel uncomfortable.
Family business carries legacy, identity and emotion. It’s essential to navigate, but it’s hard. Avoiding the conversations doesn’t make it easier later. Starting sooner does. This work is strategic, but it also personal. There in lies the challenge we all face.
If sharing what we are doing on the ground, and the lessons we’ve learned helps another family or a business supporting farming families take the first step, then it’s worth telling the story.
I speak on family business transition, communication across generations, and values-led leadership for industry groups and organisations, both in person and on-line.
I’m also heading to New Zealand for my first international event in May to speak at the Dairy Women's Network Annual Conference, which is an exciting step in taking these conversations further globally.
Being based remotely also means I take on a limited number of in-person events each year. I already have 4 events locked away. If this is a space you’re also navigating , and could see value in having a conversation, please reach out.
I really do believe strong businesses and strong families are built on strong conversations.
